DieselDaisy Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Cinema is so lacking in ideas that they actually remake and sequalise the average-to-bad films from the past. I just found out the other day that there is a sequel to Twister in production, scheduled for a July release. They even remade Point Break, the Swayze-Keanu Reeves surf film. 1 Quote

Guest The Monkey Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I saw a preview before Ferrari for “Origin” the new film by race hustler extraordinaire Ava Duvernay featuring Nick Offermann in a MAGA hat. What a douche bag that guy turned out to be. Quote
Johnny Ramone Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 @wasted your mention of Italian soft core sent me on a Tinto Brass run last night. I ended up watching Paprika & All Ladies Do It. Italian chicks muttering sexy nonsense, great stuff. Quote
Guest The Monkey Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 Ferrari I can only hope this was mangled in the editing room because otherwise, it's an incomplete movie. It tries to be impressionistic in a way but fails miserably. I was constantly trying to understand what was being said or what was going on rather than the main drama. Shayleen Woodley cannot act. She should try acting lessons instead of polyamory. What a no talent. Quote
DieselDaisy Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 The Lighthouse (2019) Arriving from the chap who did The Witch, it is a bleak experimental art film like Tetsuo or Eraserhead. No story whatsoever: it solely consists of mood building, imagery, dissonance and psychology - reminded me a bit of Repulsion also. I wouldn't say I loved it but it is intriguing at least. Lots of farting and wanking. Body Bags (1993) Another portmanteau horror film like Creepshow, this time overseen by John Carpenter, who also is the horror impresario, and Tobe Hooper. The idea is Carpenter is in a mortuary doing the ''horror host'' thing and discusses each corpse which then triggers their particular story which led to their demise. Hooper, Wes Craven and Sam Raimi cameo in a roster that also includes Mark Hamill, David Warner, Sheena Easton, Debbie Harry and, most surprising of all, Twiggy. All three stories are decent. 1 Quote

wasted Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I watched Superbad then was taken out by some kind new experimental flu. The Running Man maybe on now. The Fanatic I heard good things about. Everyone must have seen this. 2 Quote

DieselDaisy Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Opera (1987) I used to have a t-shirt of this, the movie poster! I had not seen it in awhile. Probably the last truly 'great' Argento and the summit of his operatic and technical style: you'll never see a more stunning film. Maybe the finale 'just' lets the film down but it is an impressive film. Quote
DieselDaisy Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Sleepless (2001) A fairly weak outing for Argento punctuated by moments of his former brilliance, usually the murders. The first 15-20mins are impeccable: you could be forgiven in thinking you were primed for a top tier Argento giallo, but then the film gets completely lost in this plot with detective Max von Sydow and a killer dwarf. Even music by Goblin cannot revive this turkey. Quote

DieselDaisy Posted January 1 Posted January 1 The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) Stupendously awful. Argento's Chinese Democracy, i.e., the point of which there''l be no return!!! Quote
wasted Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Is this the Argento of the chick that Metoo'd Harvey? Bernado Bertolucci movies are almost soft core. Stealing Beauty had Liv Tyler in it. Last Tango is pure Pastis and water. The Last Emperor (1987) Quote

Genuinely cannot wait for the Twister sequel. I hope it goes off the rails and brings in aliens and shit. Twister cinematic universe. CGI Bill Paxton defeats the tornado with the infinity gauntlet. Let's get meta. Quote

It's not just a surf movie, the whole philosophy is the antithesis of the zombie social media culture. Bodhi would throw his mobile in the sea. Sorry iphone. He might have a mobile for logistics. They are recycling every movie using the woke superhero CGI marketing before script - escalation of action - formula. Wiping the memory of any artistic merit from history. In filmmaking terms they are using a B movie style budget. Use name brand title of film, AI does the script, marketing dept oversees everything, cheap knock off replica stars that don't act, then use cheap CGI and have one stand out action scene to put in the trailer. Like food industry went with mantra "no known nutritional value" , movies have gone with "no new ideas to see here." Quote
Guest The Monkey Posted January 2 Posted January 2 The Girl Who Lept Through Time This was pretty touching. It made me think about monkeys I used to know. Quote
DieselDaisy Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Mother of Tears (2007) It complete Argento's Three Mothers Trilogy, which started with Suspiria. It is quite decent actually, baroque and camp that it is. 9 hours ago, wasted said: Is this the Argento of the chick that Metoo'd Harvey? DieselDaisy Posted January 2 Posted January 2 5 minutes ago, wasted said: There isn't another director called Argento is what I meant. It's Asia's dad. Well his brother, Claudio Argento, is Dario's producer but he has never directed and tends to just produce Dario's films (with one exception). Dario Nicolodi, ex-wife of Dario and mother of Asia, acted in most of the Argento masterpieces, Tenebrae, Profondo Rosso, etc. She also did some writing. Nepotism, ehh? Quote

Even in budget details you see 35 mil average on Marketing promo etc. 15 mil on the movie. There's no Jack Nicholson getting 50 mil to do Batman. There was Downey Jr. on Iron Man but on these cheap remakes, they aren't paying for creatives. I'm not Star Wars guy. I think once Disney got them they are done. But that's just Lucas he only cares about moviemaking techniques. I'm pretty sure he sold the industry his CGI tech so he could make better effects stuff. In the book his wife leaves him because she "couldn't take the darkness anymore". I saw one where Luke dies. He's living on an island. Then there's a huge fight at the end. One had a chick hero and a black storm trooper. Basically it was woke woke woke then Harrison Ford came back. It's obvious they are just hitting demographics. And they get every time. I saw the new Point Break. It was ok, but it had nothing to do with Point Break. That's why I only go to theatre for the real stuff. Proven directors I know. Not remake franchise, Disney, superhero bullshit. I can play Avengers LEGO my phone. You can watch Fast n Furious Tokyo Drift on Netflix. Quote
