I watched The Killer. It was alright. Am i missing something where it's one of those genius movies that most people don't realize are genius?

Not really, just a light satire about modern America and commentary on filmmaking in action movie form.

I think The Killer might be his most Fincher-est movie because it combines the soulessness of Corporate world from Fight Club and Social Network with Serial Killers in Seven and Zodiac. It's his most focused statement of Fincherness. The genius is he invented Fincherness. The movie itself isn't a mindblowing trick or something.

He makes that point about you having to be a psychopath to win in the corporate world, but he's also commenting that his direction methods are very meticulous and he's basically a serial killer himself when it comes to movie making. I don't think that is hugely genius.

To me genius is inventing something, Fincher is now a adjective and The Killer is his best expression of it.

2 is one of the most unintentionally bad films I have ever seen.

They are fun movies, but none of them are cinematic masterpieces. The tv show used to be on after Thundercats in the late 80s?

I finished all of the movies I had on my list.

I'm gonna pause on watching any more until early 2024.

I'm gonna see Napoleon next weekend, that'll probably be my last one for awhile.

So am I. Full of historical inaccuracies judging by the trailers, and Ridley Scott has been pelting historians with some abuse.

From what we can gather,

- Ages all wrong. Phoenix now 49 and is playing a twentysomething General Bonaparte in some scenes. Heck, Napoleon was younger than Phoenix by about five years at Waterloo - in other words he had his entire career done-and-dusted before reaching Phoenix's age. The Empress Josephine was about six years older than Bonaparte. Vanessa Kirby is 35!

- Napoleon and Wellington meet onboard HMS Bellerophon. Napoleon and Wellington never personally met (spied one another through telescopes at Waterloo would be the closest). Scene utter fabrication.

- Napoleon firing cannonballs at the pyramids for some odd reason!

- Napoleon wasn't present during execution of Marie Antionette.

- Napoleon never led a cavalry charge and actually was a poor equestrian.

- Battle of Austerlitz completely reconstructed (I'll not nerd you out on this).

Electric Dreams

Fun, goofy movie. Decent looking guy puts on glasses to look like nerd. Classic.

Michael Madsen's hot sister is in as the love interest.

I haven't been sleeping and need something to do.

I'll cut myself off on movies in November.

Ok, 2 is over. You have to tell me they get better. I vaguely remember seeing 3 back in the day. I remember a chick having a South Park like death when her brain explodes or something. I remember Philip Seymour Hoffman being a bastard in it as well.

Yeah they get better.

Just skip 3 and watch Ghost Protocol. If you don't like that one, I doubt you'll like the rest of them.

The Juror (1996)

Much better than expected. Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin. Classic Hollywood thriller. Tony Soprano and Anne Heche. It's the antidote to The Killer.

I loved Anne Heche back in the day. Ruined her career hooking up with Ellen.

She was good in that Psycho remake. She always went all the way in the roles. Not many actresses would do those scenes.

But watching them all at once, in order, you gotta have a fetish for pain.

You're suppose to just watch them by accident in a motel  and think this is not too bad.

Night on Earth

I do not care for the films of Jim Jarmusch.

What were you hoping for?

There are movies I want to see again like Grosse Point Blank, Fifth Element and The Grifters.

Just to see what they are like. At the time I wasn't blown away. The Grifters was good.

Have you seen Jacob's Ladder or 12 Monkeys?

I would like to watch Kalifornia again.

His later movies aren't bad but this one and some of them are just lazy. It's kind of a "you had to be there" in the 90s before the internet sort of thing.

I've seen 12 Monkeys but it was a long time ago
